Good practice in action: Innovation and community development

A second example from the Department of Internal Affairs shows how funding a project worker can help encourage innovation.

The Department of Internal Affairs’ Community Development Scheme encourages innovation by funding hapÅ«, iwi, and community groups to employ a project worker to work with the community to develop and implement solutions to issues they face. Grant agreements are based on the groups’ own outcomes and work plans.

In December 2010, this community development approach to funding featured in a Good Practice in Action seminar organised by the Office for the Community and Voluntary Sector. The presenters were Lucy Chamberlain, Operations Policy Manager, Department of Internal Affairs and Maria Burgess, Community Development Worker, Porirua Living Without Violence.
